Jazz has been a mainstay influence in hip-hop whether it be a vocal loop in the background of a sound to a full on sample acting as the core of the beat. In a trap heavy influenced world its nice to calm it down and have a sound that is a bit more smooth. New faces suck as O K H O and Natia will be bringing mellow bars in this playlist, while Joey Bada$$ remasters ad jazz heavy classic from 2012. Milkavelli releases a new track featuring Lil Peep. We remember and celebrate Mac Miller and his ever expanding skills as a rapper, writer and producer with a track from his his new album “Swimming”.

1. MAC MILLER – WHATS THE USE?

After the much anticipate release of “Swimming” Mac Miller continued to show of his growth as an artist breaking into tracks influenced in a way that has left some of his previous efforts in the dust. “Whats The Use?” speaks to so much of what Swimming has to offer as an album with a funky feeling and smooth flow coming from Mac Miller. Check the subtle keys during the focus, its tiny details like this that really put Mac Miller’s music in a spot all its own in the music spectrum. Recently we lost Mac Miller just a month after the release of “Swimming” and his loss is felt in more than just the space of music. Mac Miller was a pioneer always keeping things fresh in his music and style. It is always tragic when a life is cut short, especially one that felt so limitless.

2. MILKAVELLI FT. LIL PEEP – ZZZ

If you haven’t heard of Milkavelli, I feel bad for you as he is making some amazingly creepy sounding Grime and who better to have as a feature in that realm than Lil Peep. Now before you go assuming this will be another slow, emo sampled trap influenced song, “Zzz” has these two in a way that is almost unrecognizable. Zzz features a smooth jazz heavy beat with a cool flow that sounds like something out of the Bay area in the 90’s. Zzz shows that Lil Peep could do more than just the sad boi rap he had us falling in love with.

3. O K H O FT SAITO – NULL & VOID

Now I will admit this track is from 2015 but it’s one of those songs that if you haven’t heard it yet, you need to. With its cool guitar riff lead beat and Saito’s rapping it ads that extra dimension to O K H O’s already delightfully complex sound. Null & Void drags you in with its ability to create such a dense atmosphere and its little subtleties in this production gives it such replay-ablility.

4. NATIA – RANAISSANCE FOREVER

Coming out with unrivaled energy Natia has a flow that’s aggressive in delivery over and cooler than cool sax loop. The juxtaposition of his vocals and the beat has a sound similar to Busdriver and his entire 10k Hours album is one that should not be missed. I would get on the Natia hype train before it leaves the station.

5. JOEY BADA$$ – WAVES

Joey Bada$$ released 1999 earlier this year and with that we got a re-release of his 2012 song “Waves”. This re-released gives the song a smoother polished sound that really allows the sample to work with Joey’s voice and giving it a more smooth atmosphere. With the beat being softened up, Waves is for sure a track you will want to keep playing as the summer comes to a close.
